The best part of being a children’s book author is talking to my readers about my books. I give presentations to a wide variety of groups ranging in age from 3 to 93 (yes, great-grandparents want to hear about children’s books too!). Please read about the various types of presentations I do. If you are interested in booking a presentation, please send an e-mail to

School Visits:

When I visit schools, I give up to three formal presentations per day, depending on what your needs are. In addition to that, I’m also willing to talk informally with a small group of students or teachers over lunch, visit a kindergarten class for a reading, or have a conversation with an individual class. I’m also open to other ideas, so don’t hesitate to ask me about other options.

Preparing for the visit:

The pre-visit packet will help you get your students, teachers, and the whole school community ready for our day together. It contains:
A checklist for a successful author visit
Book ordering information
A sample press release to send to local media
A sample letter to parents to send home with students

Download the school pre-visit packet (pdf).

Teacher’s guides will help you make links from my books and presentations to your curriculum. They provide you with a range of Common Core-aligned classroom activities to help reinforce the concepts and ideas you want your students to learn.

College/University Presentations:

I interact with college students on a daily basis, and am always developing the best ways to inform, engage, and inspire them. My presentations can be tailored to a variety of different types of college and university events. I typically do keynotes, conference session presentations, and stand-alone events, although I’m happy to discuss other options. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation, please contact me at

Professional and Community Presentations:

I have given talks to a variety of professional and community groups. Some of these groups include the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI); the Girl Scouts; the Sacramento LGBT Community Center; the Elk Grove Widow’s Society; the Lavender Library, Archives, and Cultural Exchange (LLACE); the San Joaquin Pride Center; and San Diego Pride, to name a few.  If you are interested in a community presentation, please e-mail me at

Book Signings:

Most often, I do book signings at bookstores, book fairs, and other book-related events. I also do book signings at Pride festivals and other cultural celebrations. If you are interested in booking a signing, please send an e-mail to
